TSA PreCheck:
TSA PreCheck is a program available through the Transportation Security Administration that allows air travelers to move through security at select airports much quicker than regular security lines. Enrollees may be eligible to receive benefits such as expedited screening, where they can leave on their shoes, belt, and jacket, and keep their laptop and liquids in their bag.
Global Entry:
Global Entry is a program that enables air travelers to expedite their customs process when entering the United States. Members of this program can use automated kiosks to complete the customs process when entering select U.S. airports, eliminating the need to wait in long lines.
NEXUS:
NEXUS is a trusted traveler program, similar to that of Global Entry but operated jointly between the United States and Canada. It allows for quicker trips across the US-Canada border. Enrollees in this program may be eligible for various benefits, such as expedited border crossings and priority screening at select airports.
SENTRI:
SENTRI stands for Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection. This is a program similar to NEXUS but for travel across the US-Mexico border. Enrollees may be eligible for various benefits, including the ability to use dedicated lanes when crossing certain US-Mexico border checkpoints and access to expedited customs clearance at select airports.
DIFFERENCES:
- TSA PreCheck applies only to U.S. customers traveling within the United States
- Global Entry covers U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents traveling from other countries
- NEXUS is a joint program between the U.S. and Canada
- SENTRI applies only to U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and Mexico.
COMMON BENEFITS:
- All four programs provide pre-approved, low-risk travelers with expedited travel.
- They also allow travelers to skip lines, reduce wait times, and use automated customs systems.
- Members of all four programs are eligible for TSA Precheck benefits.
RECOMMENDATION TO APPLICANT:
Before you apply, we recommend that you review the various DHS trusted traveler programs, such as the TSA PreCheck Application Program, Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI, to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements and determine the best program for you. If you travel internationally four or more times a year, consider enrolling in Global Entry. If you take less than four international trips a year, TSA PreCheck is a great choice for domestic travelers.
