I forgot my Sole Proprietor EIN. How do I go about finding it? 

  • We can do an EIN lookup. There is no way to find it but calling the IRS will be helpful. It’ll sometimes take 4-6 hours to get a hold of an agent so we can do that on their behalf.

 

My name on the EIN certificate is under my name. I would like my business name to show on my Sole Proprietorship EIN certificate.

  • Sole Prop EIN certificate will show your name as the legal name of the business that is because you can only have one Sole Prop EIN. You can incorporate multiple businesses under one Sole Prop EIN, unlike an LLC. You cannot put a business name in the Sole Prop EIN certificate.

 

The name on my Sole Proprietor EIN is wrong. How do I change it? 

  • You may send a letter to the IRS regarding the mistake that you have made in your name.

Here are the directions for changing your sole proprietor business name:

Write to the IRS at the address where you filed your return, informing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the name change.

Note: The notification must be signed by the business owner or authorized representative.

The business name on my LLC EIN certificate is wrong. Please change it. 

  • You may reapply on our website using our 100% coupon code. The coupon will cover every cost for the service fee charge thus, you will just be paying for one service fee. The EIN that will be issued to you using the coupon will be free. We cannot alter the name of the business anymore once the EIN has been assigned.

 

If I reapply again using your coupon, what will happen to my other EIN? 

  • You may disregard the other EIN that you have which has the wrong business name. As long as you use a business name that has an accurate business name during your tax filing, there shouldn’t be any problems. 

 

I already registered my LLC or business name with my Secretary of State. I got a 101 error. What should I do? 

  • We can do an SS4 application on your behalf and we will be faxing your SS4 along with your articles of organization, which was given to you by your secretary of state when you filed your application with them. This process will take 20-25 days. Rest assured that you will be able to use your business name even though we have encountered a 101 error LLC. 

 

My bank is not accepting the certificate you sent. They are asking for a letter from the IRS.

Two possible answers: 

  • Have you printed out the certificate we sent you? If not, please do print it out and show it to your bank. It should suffice. 

  • We can request your 147c letter. This is the exact letter that you are expecting in your mail. We can send it to you via email and you can print it out for you to show it to your bank. 

 

How long should I receive my letter in my mail? 

  • After receiving your EIN, you should be expecting your EIN certificate to arrive in your mail within two weeks. 

 

Why is the word “The” missing from my EIN certificate? It should be “The Awesome Company LLC" and it only shows “Awesome Company LLC” 

  • regarding "The" in front of names, the IRS automatically removes it. They only allow "The" if the business name is like one word. So if the business name is "The Awesome Company LLC", they will make it "Awesome Company LLC". But if the name is "The Awesome", they will let is stay "The Awesome". It's just how they categorize businesses, it should not affect your ability to open bank accounts and such. All banks should be aware of IRS naming conventions.

 

Can I still alter the business name (both for Corporation and LLC business types) 

  • Yes, if they have not yet registered with their Secretary of State. 

  • Yes, however, they have to file a certificate of amendment in their state if they have registered with their SoS. This certificate will enable them to alter the business name that has been registered to them. 

 

I have an ITIN. Is the process still the same? 

  • All responsible parties that have an ITIN will go through the SS4 application. 

 

What is a DBA? 

  • DBA or Doing Business As (also called a Fictitious Business Name (FBN)) is the nickname of your business. This may be different from your registered business name and DBA will technically be the name of the business that will show to the public. 

How will I know if the EIN number you issued is legit?

  • You will receive a physical copy of your EIn certificate via mail within a few weeks. If you haven’t received it yet, we can retrieve it for you directly from the IRS.

Is there a cost to register with the state?

Can I add business partners to the EIN Number?

  • Partners are added to your articles of corporation; not the EIN. 

What is the specific number of characters that the IRS caters to?

  • Business name = 69 character max

    DBA name = 35 character max 

    Address = 35 character max

    City = 26 character max
